Abagnale's real-life criminal activities included successfully impersonating a Pan Am pilot, a doctor, and a lawyer, all while cashing millions of dollars in fraudulent checks. He flew over 1,000,000 miles for free by pretending to be a pilot, and he managed to work as a supervisor of resident interns at a hospital for a time, despite having no medical qualifications. After being captured and serving time in prison, Abagnale eventually became a consultant for the FBI, helping them combat fraud.
