More media jobs lost across major outlets

Job cuts are sweeping through the media sector, affecting nearly every major outlet as advertising revenue dries up. Changes include eliminating roles, reduced programming, and cancelled news shows. Newsroom co-founder Mark Jennings noted that “for those companies that are entirely dependent on advertising, it’s been grim.”

He warns that constant cost-cutting is the industry’s only survival route, but dwindling audiences threaten its stability.

Christchurch leads NZ with sanctions against firms tied to Israeli settlements

Christchurch has made headlines as the first New Zealand city to penalise companies involved with Israeli settlements. Christchurch City Council passed a policy that will stop doing business with firms linked to Israel’s settlement activities on Palestinian territory.

The council vote follows similar steps by Environment Canterbury and is aligned with UNSC Resolution 2334, which condemns Israeli settlements.

Brooke van Velden calls out Labour’s ‘anti-worker’ vaccine mandates

In a parliamentary exchange, Labour MP Camila Belich challenged ACT MP Brooke van Velden, the Workplace Relations and Safety Minister, on the coalition government’s workers’ rights record, questioning whether Van Velden agreed with the New Zealand Council of Trade Unions (NZCTU) that this government is the “most anti-worker in decades.”
