Concerns raised over Prosecution Guidelines potentially letting Māori offenders off easily based on race

The updated Solicitor-General Prosecution Guidelines, published on 1 October 2024, aim to address the overrepresentation of Māori in the criminal justice system.

It states: “The guidelines ask prosecutors to think carefully about particular decisions where a person (whether the victim or the defendant) is Māori, or a member of any other group that is disproportionately impacted by the criminal justice system.”

The Disinformation Project (TDP) has officially closed. Initially focused on countering COVID “misinformation”, it expanded its scope to take on the supposed spectre of white nationalism.

According to retired judge and blogger David Harvey, the concerning aspect of TDP, “was the lack of rigour and approach that was taken” to the work they were producing.

Waikato Hospital staff ordered to speak English only in clinical settings

Waikato Hospital has banned nurses from speaking any language other than English with patients. The memo, aimed at reducing confusion and ensuring safety, has been criticised for targeting Indian, Filipino, and Pasifika nurses.
